“TORMAX provides access to the Porsche Museum (D) ”
One major advantage of automatic doors is that designers and architects do not have to concern themselves with door latches, swing areas, materials, door heights, right angles etc. This great freedom also came into play in the construction of the entrance to the Porsche Museum. The TORMAX sales partner Boetker Portaltechnik, Nuremberg was awarded the contract based on his technical competence and customised solutions. Elegant appearance and technical precision, safety and convenience distinguish TORMAX automatic doors and as a result the two automated entrance doors to the museum were equipped with the company’s proven and long-lasting automatic door systems.
Double-leafed sliding doors were harmoniously integrated into the building’s all-glass facade to act as the museum’s main entrance, lending a bright, friendly atmosphere to the lobby of this prestigious museum. The doors were powered by an automatic, two-leaf sliding door system, each leaf of which provides a clear opening of 1.5 m in width and 3.27 m in height. The floor guide is continuous. As well as offering the convenience of automatic opening and closing movements, these entrance and exit doors serve additional purposes. If necessary, their escape route function transforms them into rescue and escape route doors or their multi-point locking facility converts them into doors with enhanced burglary protection.
Smoke ventilation is also possible. Each leaf consists of a special stainless steel frame which was shot-blasted to a pearl finish and then powder-coated in black (RAL 9011). The external and internal frames are thermally separate. The glazing consists of 42 mm thick insulating glass with alarm wiring in the external pane. Each of the two leaves weighs approximately 480 kg.
In order to cope with the heavy leaves (amongst other reasons) the decision was taken to install a sliding door drive on each leaf. This then presented the real technical challenge of this project - each of the two separate drives had to operate exactly in parallel with the other, giving visitors the impression that both doors were powered by a single drive. At the same time all safety scanning required by DIN 18 650 had to function and be guaranteed.
The two automatic sliding doors are powered by a total of four type TORMAX TXP drives operating at 230 V. For perfect motion control both leaves of each individual sliding door are synchronised by a master and slave function. Each of the four drives is also provided with a battery in case of a power failure. There are two combined opening activators per leaf which are also equipped with a light curtain. This guarantees that the doors operate safely. The requirements placed on the technology and the design were met by the ultra-reliable TORMAX sliding door drives. Lengthy experience with this drive means that it can be used with great flexibility.
